260706 Personality and Career Satisfaction (THIEP)

Description
Personality and Career Satisfaction

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course explores the relationship between personality and career satisfaction, helping professionals across all industries and job types understand how their natural tendencies, values, and working styles shape their experience of work. Whether someone works in an office, on a construction site, in a warehouse, in healthcare, or in a non-profit organization, personality plays a major role in what makes a job feel fulfilling versus draining.

Rather than focusing on a single personality framework, the course introduces practical, easy-to-apply concepts: core personality traits, work values, motivation styles, and the idea of "fit" between a person and their role, team, and organization. Learners will reflect on their own preferences and behaviors, identify sources of satisfaction and friction in their current roles, and learn strategies to either improve their current job fit or make more informed career decisions going forward.

The course is designed to be inclusive and universally relevant. Examples and case studies are drawn from a wide range of work settings, including corporate offices, industrial and construction environments, frontline and field roles, and mission-driven non-profit work, so that all learners can see themselves reflected in the material regardless of job title or sector.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

1. Describe what personality is and how it influences behavior, communication, and decision-making at work.
2. Identify their own core personality traits and working preferences using simple, practical self-assessment tools.
3. Explain the concept of "person-job fit" and why mismatches between personality and role demands can lead to dissatisfaction, stress, or burnout.
4. Recognize how personality interacts with work values (such as stability, autonomy, recognition, purpose, or structure) to shape overall career satisfaction.
5. Apply strategies to adjust their current role, work habits, or environment to better align with their personality, even without changing jobs.
6. Evaluate future career opportunities or changes using personality and values-based criteria rather than salary or title alone.
7. Communicate more effectively with managers, colleagues, or teams by understanding personality-based differences in working and communication styles.
